In re Marriage Cases

I don't usually smile very much at the news, but it's a welcome change. I can't help but grin when I hear about a couple finally being able to marry. KQED's coverage of these marriages had this interesting juxtaposition: there are these uplifting personal stories and then the token religious conservative. The latter seems to almost dehumanize the issue; I find it practically inconceivable that somebody could tell the happy couple to their face, see them as humans, and tell them that they shouldn't have been allowed to get married.

This sort of thing makes me proud to be a Bay Area resident (a cheer for Gavin Newsom), but I'm afraid I'll have to wait until November to be proud of California. Fingers crossed.
